This week I hosted another episode for the LDSPMA podcast in which I had the great pleasure of meeting and interviewing CJ Madsen. In preparation for this interview I listened to his music, including One Fold, One Shepherd, a magnificent oratorio with the libretto extracted from Third Nephi in the Book of Mormon. I liked the work so much that I bought a copy of it, and my kids have also enjoyed listening. CJ is currently a graduate student in the music department at Brigham Young University.
We talked about several of his compositions in the interview, and CJ shared a lot about his creative process. Right now he is working on an opera based on the First Nephi. He also shared some keen insights about performing and listening to music in worship services.
I am currently at the LDSPMA conference, where CJ Madsen was just given a Praiseworthy Award for his music.
